The Menomonie City Council and Dunn County Board of Supervisors approved the sale of two sites for new housing and a distribution center.
At their last meeting, the Menomonie City Council approved the purchase and sale agreement for a city-owned property that will become a distribution center. The property sits on 29 acres on 59th Street NE, and was sold to SPA Properties, LLC for $1,160,000.
City staff entered into a Non-Disclosure Agreement with the developer and are unable to reveal what company will operate the distribution center. However, some officials said the business will be a good fit for the city. They expect construction work to begin this summer and the facility could be completed by early next year.
The Dunn County Board of Supervisors has also given tentative approval to the sale of a property in the City of Menomonie. According to a WisPolitics report, the board will soon begin taking bids from companies interested in purchasing the former transfer station used for trash and recycling operations until 2020. Officials say the cost of operating the facility was too high, leading to its closing. It has been vacant since trash and recycling operations ended.
According to the Board of Supervisors, one developer has expressed interest in converting the 10 acre property along Highway 29 into new housing and a child care facility. Housing and child care issues have become common across Wisconsin in recent years and the Chippewa Valley has seen a drastic increase in the unhoused population. Neighboring Eau Claire organizations recently established a task force to begin solving some of those issues in the region.
The Dunn County Facilities Committee will begin soliciting bids in February and then make their recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.
