MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – Attorney General Josh Kaul and a coalition of states won a court order that blocks the Trump Administration from eliminating Wisconsin programs that provide social services.

A Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) news release details that the administration is ordered to restore programs and members of AmeriCorps, a national program that aims to address the needs of various communities. Wisconsin-based efforts, such as assisting veterans with therapeutic recreational activities and recovery coaches guiding individuals with substance abuse disorders, can continue without interference due to the ruling.

The coalition established that the Trump Administration was unlawful in their dismantling of AmeriCorps, violating the Administrative Procedures Act and the separation of powers in the U.S. Constitution.

Attorney General Kaul calls for further action against President Trump’s directives in a statement:

This decision is an important reprieve not only for many programs supported by AmeriCorps that were affected by the Trump administration’s sudden and unwarranted cuts, but also for the many communities that benefit from those programs. Congress should also step in and prevent the Trump administration from doing further damage to AmeriCorps.

The ruling is the latest of Attorney General Kaul’s triumphs over the administration – he previously secured an injunction that barred Pres. Trump from eliminating the Department of Education in May.
