Weston School District to host a community information forum tonight, ahead of the April 7 referendum
The Weston School District will give residents of the district an opportunity to vote on an Operational Referendum on April 7. The last Operational Referendum, that was voted on, failed. The second meeting in a series to inform Weston School District residents about the upcoming referendum will be held Wednesday (Jan. 28) at 7:00 in the High School Gym.
Last week’s Weston Weekly Newsletter shared some key points about what is happening with your taxes. This year, the state allowed school districts to increase their revenue limits by $325 per student, but they provided no additional general school aid to fund it. This means the entire cost of the increase became your responsibility. Approximately 71% of Wisconsin school districts actually saw their state general aid decrease this year. Your individual tax bill is also heavily impacted by local property value assessments. If your home’s value or your municipality’s assessment shifts, your tax share can change regardless of whether your school district increased spending. Your property tax bill is a complex balance of state funding decisions, inflation, and local assessments, not just school board spending.
Anyone that wants to learn more about April’s Operational Referendum is invited to learn what the referendum means for Weston, how it supports students, and how it impacts the future Wednesday night (Jan. 28) at 7:00 in the high school gym. For questions or to schedule an alternate meeting time or location, contact Molly Kasten at by email at [email protected] or call 608-983-2380 Ext. 204.
