Kenosha County Concerns Over Wheatland Energy Project

WHEATLAND, Wis. (WRJN) – Some Kenosha County residents are continuing to voice opposition to a proposed battery energy storage facility in the Town of Wheatland, raising concerns about safety, health, and environmental risks.

Dozens gathered at a community-led meeting Wednesday night to discuss Robin Energy Storage’s proposal for a 200-megawatt battery project. Many said they fear the site could pose a fire hazard and threaten nearby homes and farmland.

Community leaders presented a draft ordinance that would regulate battery storage projects through stricter safety, environmental, and financial rules. They urged the Wheatland Town Board to adopt the measure if the project moves forward.

Robin Energy Storage had previously withdrawn its application after the town’s planning commission voted against the project in January. However, a company spokesperson said this week that Robin is reassessing its options and remains interested in building in Wheatland.

Some town officials attended the meeting and said they continued to be opposed to the project. Residents said they want the board to act quickly on a local ordinance and are also calling on Kenosha County officials to take a stronger stand.
