That’s something no one ever wants to say. And, there’s no doubt that it sounds very scary. In my case, it’s a highly treatable skin cancer and the prognosis is wonderful. I’m going to be OK. This morning, I was diagnosed with a superficial basal cell carcinoma on my neck. I am scheduled for surgery on the 16th. This procedure is very common, and I have been told it is 99% effective. This type of cancer is not known to spread, and because of a routine dermatologist appointment, it was discovered very early.
I think that most people never go to the dermatologist. I have spoken with so many people over the years that said they have never once had their skin checked. Your skin is one of your most important organs. It is important to take care of it, and it is important to make sure that you get regular check ups. If I would have not gone to the dermatologist, I would have no idea that I have this skin cancer. It was not a noticeable thing at all, and I have had no symptoms of any type. I love to be outside, but I often wear sunscreen and Very rarely get sunburned. So this is something that must be taken seriously, for everyone’s sake. If you have not been to the dermatologist, it is a simple visit where they check your body for any odd shaped moles, freckles or other abnormalities. Nothing to be scared of whatsoever.
